Author and gardener Colleen Plimpton will talk about how to get your garden started in the springtime on Wednesday, March 20 at noon in the Hubbard Room at Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown.   Topics for discussion will be pruning, mulching, fertilizing, planning for succession of bloom and much more.

Colleen trained at the New York Botanical Garden and has tended her sloping Connecticut garden for 18 years. She has appeared on Good Morning America and PBS,  pens a weekly garden column for her local Hearst newspaper, and writes for publications such as GreenPrints, People, Places and Plants, Connecticut Gardener, and Toastmaster. Her new book, a garden memoir entitled Mentors in the Garden of Life, was published by Park East Press in May '10.  Her areas of expertise are natural design, composting, gardening in concert with Mother Nature and long-lasting color in the ornamental garden.  This program is funded by The Friends of the Russell Library.
