'They Called Me Lizzy' Cancelled!! Rescheduled to April 7
Sunday February 10, 2013
2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Actress Stephanie Jackson portrays Elizabeth “Lizzy” Keckly, an African American slave, on Sunday, February 10, at 2pm in the Hubbard Room at Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown. This one-woman dramatic show, They Called Me Lizzy…from Slavery to the White House, is produced by the East Haddam Stage Company. The performance follows Lizzy’s life as she purchases her freedom and eventually makes it to Washington where her dressmaking skills and entrepreneurial savvy land her a position as Mary Todd Lincoln’s dressmaker and confidante. Much more than a slave narrative, it is a human story, sometimes tragic, sometimes triumphant, and always fascinating. The play is written and directed by Kandie Carle. The program is made possible by a generous donation from The Friends of the Russell Library.
