Math and Movement: A Workshop by Suzy Koontz
Wednesday March 10, 2010
3:30 PM to 4:45 PM
Borg Warner Full

Come learn how young children can love learning advanced math concepts and how adults can use Math and Movement to stay mentally sharp and physically fit!

Math and Movement is a kinesthetic, multi-sensory approach to teaching math (and reading) that incorporates physical exercise, stretching, cross-body movements, yoga, breathing and the work of Paul E. Dennison, Eric Jensen, Howard Gardner, John Ratey and the Waldorf and Montessori teaching philosophies.

Children love to move.  Math and Movement harnesses children's natural love of movement and creative imagination to master basic math concepts of addition, subtraction, telling time, skip-counting, multiplication and moves on to include division, fractions, factoring, positive/negative numbers, and more.

In this presentation, you will learn movements that sharpen your brain while simultaneously helping you to feel fantastic, increase your energy, reduce your stress, increase your physical strength, suppleness, and mental acuity, ease your workload,  increase your comfort with math,  and  increase your sense of well-being!

The presentation will include interesting stories about how Math and Movement has been used in area schools to foster a love of math and will unveil over 30 newly-developed Math and Movement wall banners and floor mats that allow children to learn math and reading quickly and with pleasure.
